Introduction to the Hitachi Travelstar 5K500.B 250GB 2.5″ Hard Drive Review
When it comes to buying a laptop these days it really is luck of the draw what kind of hard drive you end up with. For most of us we won’t buy notebook hard drives separately we will just take what’s included. However, picking up a second hand notebook hard drive can be a great way of adding additional cheap storage given the current high prices of hard drives.
If you have a 250GB hard drive in your notebook then the chances are reasonably high that you may have a Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 hard drive. They are particularly common in sub-£450 hard drives made by Acer. So we are going to take a look at this value orientated hard drive that costs around £45 and see what it performs like. We hope this will be relevant to a lot of people especially for someone looking for a cheap laptop hard drive replacement if your drive is one of the smaller 80, 120 or 160GB hard drives or has broken outside of your warranty period.
We will be taking a quick look at the core specifications of this drive, what the product looks like (note there will be no packaging analysis as this is an OEM sample), power consumption figures and how it performs in read/write tests.
